Some howls from the Wolf about
Llama Hair
Now that you have seen what I can do
with Llama hair, let me tell you a little about it, and what "You" can do with it.
Llama hair is supplied to me by Kent,
who live in our neighboring British Colombia. Llama hair is available in two lengths, fresh water and salt water, the latter
being longer. I have used both on my flies. It can be blunt cut for a bold look or tapered with your scissors, or
a common thining shear. This allows you full flexability in deciding the look you want to achieve. I like to think of Wolf's
rule of water speed. The faster and more tubulent the water the bolder the fly. For slow water shallow
or deep pools and those long calm stretches I like to have a soft undulating fly (WARNING! Don't get your waders
too close to these flies, they have been known to bite!) A little Wolf humor. Fresh or salt water you have it covered.
Outstanding undulation, high
abrasion strength, the look you want, and a wide choice of colors. It doesn't get any better. What about dubbing
you say? Each pack of dubbing is generously packed with the color of your choice and there are many. Cut it, trim it,
dice it, slice it, blend it, twist it, spin it, and even add your favorite sparkle material. Somtimes when I need a special
color for my streamer bodies, I will pull the dubbing apart on it's long axis and add it to my wing hair. People
ask, "Hey Wolf. How the heck did you get that color? It really matches whats in the water."
Well now you know. Heck, now every body
knows, and there goes the store. If you like to make your own dubbing brushes this material will do the job. Or the dubbing
brushes are available all ready made in a wide choice of colors. They're fun and easy to use. You ain't Boogered till you
have fished with a Llama Booger. I have said alot about Llama hair, and I believe it to be true. If you're
still not convinced send me a S.A.S. E. with 36 cents postage and I will send you a small sample (while it lasts.)
