Celebrating 150 Years
Rangeley Sesquicentennial
Tied by Gray Wolf
1855 to 2005
In late June of this year Gray Wolf
was asked to tie the commemorate fly for the Town of Rangeley to celebrate 150 years that have passed since the town was founded
by Squire Rangeley. He accepted that honor by tying his new pattern which was named the Rangeley Sesquicentennial. You may
have seen the articles about it in the local paper, The Rangeley Highlander or
in the Lewiston Sun Journal. The fly was also on the cover of this autumn's
issue of Fly Tyer Magazine.
The original was donated to the Rangeley
Area Historical Society. He then proceeded to tie 3 more. One to give to the Governor of the State of Maine, one to the descendants
of Squire Rangeley and one to a dear friend. It was then after many requests for the fly that he decided to do a Limited Collector's
Series of 50 framed Rangeley Sesquicentennial Streamers for those who wanted a keepsake of this event.
The frames were all signed and dated and
contained a hand engraved brass plate denoting the name of the fly and celebration. It was tied on a circa 1940's John
Willis antique streamer hook that Carrie Stevens and other tiers of that era used for their own flies. The bodies were
of real Japanese Silk and only the finest feathers were used including the best Jungle Cock.
They were a tremendous success with
all being sold. There have been many more requests that we have been sad to say we had to turn down as we had limited the
amount to only 50 flies. He will not be tying this fly Presentation style ever again. He will however be tying a fishing style version for anyone who would like to have this beautiful fly either
for their collection or for fishing. It is available on our Casting and Trolling Streamer Fly page.
We would like to thank everyone
who purchased the Presentation Streamers and we hope they give them many hours of pleasure hanging in their home.
Below is a picture of one of those frames.
Also we have included pictures of other framed streamers that Gray Wolf has tied and framed for our customers. If you are
interested in purchasing a single framed fly or a collection of flies, we will be happy to fill that order for you. Gray Wolf
will happily tie any of his streamer flies Presentation style. All framed flies will now come with genuine a hand engraved
brass plate with the name of the fly or flies on them. They will make a wonderful addition to your home or as a gift for some
special friend. We offer them in either a weathered barnboard frame or in Rustic Birch Bark. You will have your choice of
either Moccasin or Spruce colored (not pictured) real Suede matting for that rich lush looking background.
